Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two different record labels signing her and then dropping her before she had any new material released. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, which received modest interest for its cheerfully playful title track. The song I Kissed a Girl was a more robust ode of sexism and complemented by electronic-pop with a sharp edge. The song quickly stirred controversy when some critics accused the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians while others claimed that the explicit scenario the song depicted sparked men's fantasies about female sexuality. The combination of exuberance and refined melodicism helped I Kissed a Girl become the number one song in multiple countries powering sales of her album One of the Boys (2008). Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy second track Hot N Cold also proving an enormous hit, the album the songs Perry recorded herself later registered an impressive three million copies in the United States.
